Our goal is to connect the strengths of the Columbia journalism tradition with intellectual work in the humanities and human sciences to enhance our understanding of media and journalism in society. The student's Academic Status defines the number of Credit Hours the student must complete to fulfill the academic guidelines of the institution. Academic or Life-experience credit is knowledge gained outside of the classroom through work or other professional endeavors.

Methods 15 Credits : All first-year doctoral students enroll in Quantitative Research Methods in the fall, and in Qualitative Research Methods in the spring.

These general courses deal with a variety of research methods used within the field.
