Wind loading software
The base version of the software is MecaWind, and it offers the most costeffective option of performing wind calculations. Seeing the pressures graphically gives the user a real advantage at being able to visualize what is physically occurring. MecaWind Pro also offers the ability to calculate the total reactions at the base of the structure. This is no simple calculation, given the complexity of the pressure distributions on the roof.
MecaWind Pro takes all pressures into account, and gives a simple summary of the base reactions. FAQs Does the program have a help manual? A help manual is provided with the program in the form of a pdf file.
You may print the file or view it electronically. Is technical support available for the software? Yes, technical support is available through Meca by email.
Any state using ASCE or It's difficult to keep up with all state requirements, but it appears all states are now following ASCE 7. The latest version is ASCE I'm not an Engineer, is the software going to be difficult to learn? The software itself is fairly simple to use; however, the program follows the ASCE 7 standard, and honestly it is not always a simple standard to follow. Here you can set structure and region specific settings that will cascade to any member that allow for lateral wind loads currently wall studs and wall embedded columns.
If you find that you are mostly likely to reuse the same settings for every job, simply click the Save as Default button in the upper right corner of the window and Forte will keep these settings for every job moving forward.
If you are not designing wind loaded wall studs or wall embedded columns, you can skip this step. Simply choose your Occupancy Category and Basic Wind Speed at the job level and Forte will use the settings you set on the Level Properties tab to automatically calculate the designed wind pressure for every wall stud and wall embedded column in the job.
You may enter your own lateral wind load by checking "Do not apply Wind Load Settings The Eng-Tips staff will check this out and take appropriate action.
